An annual pass will be available for daily commuters at 3,000 rupees. The new route will reduce traffic on the old national highway by 50-60% and can be expanded to 8 lanes in the future.

Expressway in UP: A new modern expressway is being built between Lucknow and Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh, which will cover the 90-kilometer distance in just 1 hour. According to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), this 6-lane road will be available for private vehicles at a toll rate of 15 rupees, while an annual pass will be available for daily commuters at 3,000 rupees. Traffic pressure on the old road will be reduced, and there is a provision to expand it to 8 lanes in the future.

Just One Hour Journey Instead of Three

It currently takes up to three hours to cover the approximately 90-kilometer distance between Lucknow and Kanpur. The main reasons for this are heavy traffic and congestion. However, once the new expressway opens, this distance can be covered in just one hour. Vehicles will be able to travel smoothly on this road without stopping. The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) states that this project will save both time and fuel.

Toll will be just 15 Rupees Daily

The toll for commuters on this expressway has also been kept very affordable. A one-way toll will be approximately 125 rupees. However, an annual pass facility will also be provided for those who commute daily on this route. Its price has been set at 3,000 rupees. This means the daily cost will be around just 15 rupees. Currently, this facility is only for private vehicles. Separate toll rates will apply for commercial vehicles.

6-lane Expressway, Future Expansion to 8 Lanes

Construction of this expressway is currently being carried out as a 6-lane road. However, considering future needs, a provision has been made to expand it to 8 lanes. It is estimated that more than 40,000 vehicles will use this route daily. NHAI claims that this road will easily be able to handle traffic pressure for the next 50 years.

Reduced Pressure on the Old Highway

Once the new expressway opens, the pressure on the existing national highway will be significantly reduced. It is estimated that traffic on the old route will decrease by 50 to 60 percent. This will directly benefit commuters who prefer to travel on the old highway. They too will now get relief from traffic jams and their journey will be smoother.

Work is Progressing Rapidly

NHAI has informed that construction work is progressing at a fast pace. It is expected that this project will be completed soon. Once it opens, thousands of daily commuters between Lucknow and Kanpur will get significant relief. Where people previously lost both time and fuel by getting stuck in daily traffic jams, their journey will now become easy, fast, and comfortable.

A Great Boon for Daily Commuters

Thousands of people commute daily between Lucknow and Kanpur. These include a large number of office-goers, students, and traders. Thus, the new expressway will be nothing short of a boon for them. The annual pass facility will also save them on travel expenses.

The Uttar Pradesh government and the central government are actively engaged in rapidly strengthening the road and highway network in the state. Major projects like the Yamuna Expressway, Agra-Lucknow Expressway, and Purvanchal Expressway are already providing convenience to commuters. Now, the Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway is going to be another major addition to this series.
