Manipur: Paramilitary forces were targeted on Friday evening in Manipur's Bishnupur district. A group of armed individuals ambushed an Assam Rifles vehicle, leading to the martyrdom of two personnel and injuries to five others. The incident occurred in the Nambol Sabal Leikai area, where Assam Rifles personnel were traveling from Imphal towards Bishnupur district.
Officials stated that one Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) was among the deceased. The injured personnel were admitted to the hospital with the help of police and local residents, where they are currently receiving treatment. Following the attack, security forces launched a search operation to apprehend the terrorists.
How the Attack Unfolded
According to officials, the attack occurred when a contingent of 33 Assam Rifles personnel was moving from their Patsoi Company Operating Base towards the Nambol Company Operating Base. The ambush took place on the highway, which was a busy road, thus affecting local traffic and movement.
A senior security official stated that after carrying out the attack, the terrorists fled in a white van. The personnel exercised restraint during retaliation to ensure no harm came to any civilians. No group has yet claimed responsibility for this attack.
Treatment and Condition of Injured Personnel
The five personnel injured in the attack have been admitted to RIMS, and their condition is reported to be stable. Officials stated that security forces and local residents acted swiftly to transport the injured personnel to the hospital. Following the incident, security has been heightened across the entire area, and an intensive search operation is underway in the surrounding regions.
