Rajyasabha: The Rajya Sabha witnessed significant uproar on Tuesday over the demand for a discussion on SIR (Special Intensive Revision). Opposition members urged the Speaker of the House to allow Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge to speak, but Union Health Minister JP Nadda bly opposed it. This dispute disrupted the proceedings of the House, leading to a walkout by the opposition.
Opposition's Demand and Kharge's Allegation
Opposition members demanded a discussion on SIR in the Rajya Sabha. Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge raised the issue of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list in Bihar, stating that this process was affecting the votes of Dalits, tribals, minorities, the poor, and marginalized sections. He accused the central Modi government of bias and discrimination in this matter. Kharge said that this issue should be raised openly in the House without any obstruction.
JP Nadda Levelled Serious Allegations Against the Opposition
Union Minister JP Nadda refuted Kharge's allegations, stating that the opposition does not believe in a healthy democracy. He emphasized that the government is ready for discussion on every issue, but it must all be done according to the rules. Nadda said that the opposition's working style is obstructing the smooth functioning of the House and that it damages the dignity of Parliament.
He said that the opposition is constantly trying to spread anarchy and is disrupting the proceedings of Parliament. Nadda also said that the opposition has wasted more than 64 hours so far during the monsoon session. He urged the Chairman of the House that the political statement given by the Leader of the Opposition should be removed from the official proceedings of the House, as it is against the rules of Parliament.
Parliament Proceedings and Matters of Rules
JP Nadda clarified that the government is ready to discuss all issues under the rules, but the rules are being disregarded by the opposition. He explained that the opposition always demands a discussion on "Shreeman" under Rule 267, but this rule is not for such political statements. Nadda said that the opposition's demand is only to spread political controversy and that they are not interested in maintaining the dignity of the House.
Opposition Walkout and Uproar
After the opposition members' demand for discussion was rejected, they walked out of the House in protest. The opposition said that the government does not want open discussion on issues and does not want to answer the public's questions.
