Rukmini Vasanth on 'Kantara Chapter 1': A Dream Come True and Cultural Immersion

Famous South actress Rukmini Vasanth will soon be seen sharing the screen with Rishab Shetty in 'Kantara Chapter 1'. In a recent interview with Amar Ujala, the actress shared her cinematic journey and experiences from this film.

Entertainment News: When this film came to me, I was very happy. Rishab sir had previously praised my film 'Sapta Saagaradaache Ello', and his words always hold special meaning for me. But I never thought it would give me the opportunity to work in such a big film. When he asked me to join the film, it truly felt like a dream come true for me.

As I began to understand the story and my character, my excitement grew. There was a bit of nervousness too, as the character was significant and held much importance in the story, but seeing Rishab sir's trust in me gave me confidence, and I completely immersed myself in my role.

Experience of Being Part of the Film

Rukmini Vasanth stated that when she was offered the film, her joy knew no bounds. She explained, "Rishab sir had previously praised my film 'Sapta Saagaradaache Ello'. His words meant a lot to me. But I never thought it would lead to an opportunity to work in such a big film. When he asked me to join the film, it truly felt like a dream."

As she understood the story and her character, Kanakavathi, her excitement grew. Although there was a bit of nervousness because the character was quite significant and held crucial importance in the story. But seeing Rishab Shetty's trust gave her confidence.

Character Preparation

Rukmini shared that while working on this film, she felt it was crucial to completely immerse herself in the culture. Kantara is not just a story; it is deeply connected to the traditions of the Karavali region. For my role, it was essential to understand Bhuta-Kola and Daiva Aradhane. The writers and Rishab sir helped me, not just by explaining the rituals, but also by detailing how they impact society and people's lives. She added that the biggest challenge was the physical skills she had to learn to bring her character truly alive.

Rukmini shared that the first day is always filled with excitement and nervousness. A new set, a new atmosphere—everything new. She said, "Upon reaching the set, the team had already been shooting for a month. I had to find my place in their rhythm. Initially, there were easy scenes with not many dialogues. This gave me time to focus on the character's body language, gaze, and demeanor. When the dialogue-heavy scenes came, I started working on voice and subtle nuances."

Co-stars' Support

Rukmini shared her experiences of working with Rishab Shetty and Gulshan Devaiah. Rishab sir was involved from the beginning. His participation even in the writers' workshop helped me understand Yuvarani's (the princess's) body language. Working with Gulshan sir was also inspiring. I was surprised by how beautifully he speaks Kannada and how comfortable he is with the dialect.

After the success of 'Kantara Chapter 1', Rukmini said that feeling pressure is natural. If the first part is successful, the second part inherently brings a greater responsibility. Pressure sometimes holds us back, but responsibility motivates us. The entire team managed it beautifully so that the work didn't feel overwhelming, and we could give our best.
