UP Approves 90.8 Km Link Expressway Connecting Ganga & Agra-Lucknow Expressways; Farrukhabad Set to Benefit

A 90.8 km link expressway will be constructed in UP to connect the Ganga Expressway and the Agra-Lucknow Expressway. The cost per km will be Rs 83 crore. Farrukhabad will directly benefit in terms of traffic, investment, and trade.

UP News: The Uttar Pradesh government is preparing to launch a major infrastructure project. The state cabinet has approved the construction of a greenfield link expressway that will connect the Agra-Lucknow Expressway with the Ganga Expressway. This proposed expressway will be built with a 6-lane width, which can be expanded to 8 lanes as needed. The most modern construction technique, EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) method, will be used for this project.

Most Expensive Road Infrastructure

This link expressway will be among the most expensive road infrastructure projects to be built in Uttar Pradesh. Taking the example of the Gorakhpur Link Expressway, Rs 7300 crore was spent for 91 kilometers there. This meant an approximate cost of Rs 80 crore per kilometer. However, for this new link expressway proposed for Farrukhabad, the estimated cost per kilometer will be approximately Rs 82 crore.

Direct Benefit to Farrukhabad District

This new link expressway will prove particularly beneficial for Farrukhabad district. It will not only reduce travel time but also increase investment and trade opportunities in the district. The local economy is expected to be strengthened by this road project.

Proposed Route and Length

The link expressway will start from Kudrail (Etawah) on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway and will terminate at Sayaijpur (Hardoi) on the Ganga Expressway. The proposed total length of the expressway is 90.838 kilometers, and the estimated cost is Rs 7488.74 crore. This route will strengthen inter-district connectivity for several districts of Uttar Pradesh.

EPC Method and Construction Process

There will be no involvement of the central government in this project. The construction agency will be selected through a tender process under the EPC method for the construction work. The construction period is set at 548 days. After the completion of construction, the same agency will be responsible for maintenance for the next 5 years.

Expressway Grid to be Ready

This new link expressway will not be limited to connecting only the Ganga Expressway and the Agra-Lucknow Expressway. It will also extend the Bundelkhand Expressway to the Ganga Expressway in a north-south direction. Thus, all three expressways – Agra-Lucknow, Bundelkhand, and Ganga Expressways – will connect to form a large network or grid.

Ground Reality and Significance

This project is particularly significant for Farrukhabad district as it will improve regional connectivity. Furthermore, this road project will help increase traffic speed and reduce transportation costs. The business community and logistics companies will also benefit significantly from it.

Uttar Pradesh's Road Infrastructure Development

The Uttar Pradesh government has emphasized the construction of an expressway network in the state over the past few years. The Agra-Lucknow Expressway and Bundelkhand Expressway are already under construction and operational. The construction of the Ganga Expressway is underway from Meerut to Prayagraj. The construction of this new link expressway will enhance the capacity of the entire expressway network in Uttar Pradesh and make road travel experience in the state safer.
