Tragedy in Bharatpur: Two Teenage Girls Drown During Durga Idol Immersion

Two teenage girls drowned in a pond during Durga idol immersion in Purani Chhawani village, Bharatpur. Police are investigating, and the entire village is gripped by a wave of sorrow.

Bharatpur: Two teenage girls drowned in a pond during Durga idol immersion on the last day of Navratri in Purani Chhawani village, Bharatpur district, Rajasthan, dying on the spot. The deceased teenagers have been identified as 19-year-old Tanu and 16-year-old Khushi. Police arrived at the scene and initiated an investigation. Villagers pulled both of them out of the pond, but it was too late. The tragedy plunged the entire village into mourning.

Two Teenage Girls Lost Their Lives Drowning in Pond

The pond near Purani Chhawani village was nestled amidst hills, where the idol of Goddess Mata was being immersed at the conclusion of Navratri prayers. At the time of the incident, 5-6 children had gone to the pond for idol immersion. It was during this activity that 19-year-old Tanu and 16-year-old Khushi drowned in the water.

Other children present near the pond immediately alerted the village. Villagers rushed to the scene and, after considerable effort, pulled both teenagers out of the water. However, by then, their lives could not be saved. This tragedy proved devastating not only for the families but for the entire village.

Identification of Deceased Teenagers

Police identified the deceased teenagers as Tanu, daughter of Sahib Singh Jat (19), and Khushi, daughter of Ranu Jat (16). Their families are in deep shock following the accident. The joy of Mata immersion suddenly turned into sorrow.

Family members and villagers are constantly weeping as they remember the two teenagers. Villagers claim that the accident occurred due to a lack of safety. People are demanding that adequate security arrangements be made at ponds and immersion sites in the future.

Police Investigation Actions 

Sadar Police Station Officer Mahesh Meena stated that a police team arrived at the scene immediately after receiving the information. Villagers had already pulled both teenagers out of the water, but they had already succumbed.

Police have placed the bodies in the hospital mortuary and have initiated a thorough investigation into the matter. Officials are trying to ascertain why security arrangements at the pond's edge were insufficient and which negligence led to this accident.

Village Mourns After Accident

A wave of sorrow swept through the entire village after the accident. The joy and enthusiasm that accompanied Mata immersion turned into grief. Family members are inconsolable with tears, and villagers are engaged in comforting them.

Local residents are stating that security arrangements are crucial at ponds and other immersion sites. To prevent any further accidents in the future, the administration and police need to collaborate on making better provisions. This incident also conveys a message to raise awareness about the safety of children and youth.
