From October 1, 2025, Emirates Airlines has completely banned the use of power banks on flights. Passengers may only carry power banks with a capacity of less than 100Wh in their carry-on bags, but charging them or powering devices during the flight is prohibited. This measure has been taken for safety reasons.
Emirates Airlines Rules: From October 1, 2025, Emirates Airlines has strictly prohibited the use of power banks on its flights. Passengers can now only carry one power bank (with a capacity of less than 100Wh) in their carry-on bags, but charging it or powering devices during the flight is strictly forbidden. This rule has been implemented to prevent safety hazards such as fires or thermal runaway in power banks containing lithium-ion batteries. Passengers who do not comply with the rule may face boarding denial or confiscation of their power bank.
New Guidelines on Power Banks
From October 1, 2025, Emirates Airlines has completely banned the use of power banks on its flights. Passengers can now only carry one power bank (with a capacity of less than 100Wh) in their carry-on bags, but charging it or powering devices during the flight is strictly prohibited. Violating this rule may result in passengers facing boarding denial or confiscation of their power bank.
Under the new rules, power banks can only be carried in carry-on bags, not in checked-in luggage. They must be kept in the seat pocket or under the seat in front so that the flight crew can take immediate action in an emergency. It is mandatory to inform the crew immediately if there is overheating or malfunction.
Safety Reasons and Emirates' Measure
Emirates' decision has been made considering the risk of thermal runaway and fire from power banks containing lithium-ion batteries. Poor quality power banks can prove dangerous due to a lack of safety features such as auto shut-off or temperature control. A power bank was also believed to be the cause of a fire incident on an Air Busan flight in 2023, which injured 27 passengers.
Other airlines worldwide, such as Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Korean Air, EVA Air, China Airlines, and AirAsia, have also already implemented strict rules regarding the use of power banks. This step has been taken in line with global safety standards.
Essential Precautions for Passengers
Passengers should charge their devices before the flight and use the in-seat charging points available on the aircraft. The power bank's capacity should be clearly marked, and it should never be placed in checked-in luggage. Failure to follow crew instructions may result in the power bank being confiscated or boarding being denied.
