Lucknow, Gosaiganj Jail — One evening, amid an unfortunate turn of events and ensuing accusations, inmate Vishwas Rajput attacked fellow inmate Gayatri Prasad Prajapati, striking him on the hand and head with an iron rod.

The Incident:

Vishwas Rajput is imprisoned in connection with a murder case and has been incarcerated since 2022. According to DIG Jail Dr. Ramdhani, the incident began when the former minister reportedly hurled expletives at Rajput. In response,
Rajput picked up an iron rod, which was present within the jail premises, and attacked him. The injuries are on the head and hand. The injured minister was first admitted to the jail hospital and then transferred to KGMU Trauma Center, where he is currently undergoing treatment.

Reactions and Allegations

His wife, MLA Maharaji Prajapati, demanded full security for her husband from the government and the judiciary. She also stated that this could be a conspiracy. She alleged that if even carrying a bottle of water is restricted in jail, then how was the attack possible — how did items like “knives and scissors” reach inside the jail? Based on the report by Jailer Rajesh Kumar, a case has been registered at Gosaiganj Police Station regarding this incident. Officials state that no conspiracy has been detected so far; it appears to be a “spontaneous incident.” A departmental inquiry is underway.
