India announced its ODI squad against Australia. Tilak Varma and Nitish Kumar Reddy were included in the team. Jasprit Bumrah was rested, while Shami, Varun Chakravarthy, and Sanju Samson are not in the squad this time.

IND vs AUS ODI: The Indian cricket team has announced its squad for the upcoming ODI series against Australia. Several changes have been made to Team India for this tour. Shubman Gill has been appointed as the new ODI captain, replacing Rohit Sharma. Furthermore, some prominent and experienced players have not made it to the squad this time, including names like Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, and Ravindra Jadeja.

The ODI series for the Australia tour will commence on September 19. The BCCI has opted for a blend of young and experienced players, aiming to maintain balance across teams for both formats.

Bumrah Rested from ODI Squad

India's premier fast bowler, Jasprit Bumrah, has been rested from the ODI series this time. However, he has been included in the T20 squad. Bumrah's absence signals a new strategy for the ODI team. The reasons cited for resting him are to provide opportunities to new fast bowlers and for workload management.

Even without Bumrah, the team possesses a balanced fast-bowling attack. Fast bowlers like Siraj, Arshdeep Singh, and Harshit Rana have been included in the squad, who could prove effective in Australian conditions.

Hardik Pandya Out Due to Injury

Hardik Pandya was not included in the squad due to injury. Hardik sustained an injury during the Asia Cup 2025, raising questions about his fitness. His absence has led to changes in the team's all-rounder department. Shreyas Iyer has been appointed as vice-captain and will play an all-rounder's role in the team.

Ravindra Jadeja Overlooked

India's Test team vice-captain, Ravindra Jadeja, was not included in the ODI squad. Jadeja had already retired from T20I cricket. However, his performances have always impressed both spectators and the team. He was part of the team in the Champions Trophy 2025 and made a crucial contribution.

Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar stated that everyone knows how good a player Jadeja is. However, according to the current plan, it was not possible to include two left-arm spinners in Australia. As part of this strategy, Jadeja did not get an opportunity this time.

Varun Chakravarthy and Sanju Samson Miss Out on Squad Spot

Among other players not included in the team are Varun Chakravarthy and Sanju Samson. Both players are part of the T20 squad but could not secure a spot in the ODI team.

Varun Chakravarthy had an impressive performance in the Asia Cup, but he did not get an opportunity in the team selection for the ODI format. Meanwhile, Sanju Samson has made his mark in the T20 format but has not yet been included in the ODI squad.

No Comeback for Mohammed Shami

India's experienced fast bowler Mohammed Shami last played in the Champions Trophy 2025. He remained out of the team due to an injury sustained during the IPL. He has not been included in the ODI team for the Australia tour.

Experts believe that the arrival of new fast bowlers has intensified competition for Shami. Many experts also opine that this ODI phase of Shami's career is almost over.

Balance of the New ODI Squad

The BCCI has selected a squad for the Australia tour that blends young and experienced players. Shubman Gill has been appointed captain, and Shreyas Iyer as vice-captain. Young batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal and wicketkeeper KL Rahul have been included in the team.

By balancing spinners and fast bowlers, the selectors have formulated a strategy keeping Australian conditions in mind. Spinners like Kuldeep Yadav and Washington Sundar, along with fast bowlers like Siraj and Arshdeep Singh, have been given opportunities.
