NIRF Ranking 2025: The Union Ministry of Education released the latest National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) rankings on September 04, 2025. This year too, IIT Madras has maintained its dominance in the Engineering category and topped the Overall category. Meanwhile, the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore has secured the first position for the sixth consecutive time in the University category.
Rankings Released in 16 Categories
The NIRF Ranking 2025 has been announced across a total of 16 categories. These include Overall, University, College, Research Institutions, Engineering, Management, Pharmacy, Medical, Dental, Law, Architecture & Planning, Agriculture & Allied Sectors, Innovation, Open Universities, Skill Universities, and State Open Universities.
According to reports, a new category, "Sustainability (SDG)," is also likely to be added to the rankings this year.

In the University category this year, IISc Bangalore secured the first position. Following it, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) ranked second. The list of top 10 universities is as follows.
