An 80-year-old three-story building collapsed in Gir Somnath, Gujarat, killing three people, including a mother, daughter, and a motorcyclist. Two people were rescued safely, while the investigation into the accident and debris removal work are ongoing.

Gir Somnath: Panic ensued in Veraval city, Gir Somnath district, Gujarat, late at night when a section of an 80-year-old three-story building collapsed. The incident claimed the lives of a mother, her daughter, and a motorcyclist, while two others were safely extricated. Police and disaster management teams promptly reached the site and launched a rescue operation.

Three Dead in Gir Somnath Building Collapse

A three-story building located in the Kharwad area of Veraval city, Gir Somnath district, Gujarat, collapsed around 1:30 AM late at night. The building was reportedly about 80 years old and in a dilapidated condition. At the time of the incident, several people were sleeping inside, while one person was passing by on his motorcycle near the building.

Three people died trapped under the rubble. The deceased include motorcyclist Dinesh Jangi (34), woman Devkiben Suyani (65), and her daughter Yashoda (35). The incident caused chaos at the scene, and local residents also gathered at the accident site.

Two Rescued in Rescue Operation

Upon receiving information about the incident, police, fire department, and municipal corporation teams immediately reached the spot. Debris removal work began with the help of local residents. The rescue operation continued throughout the night, and two people were safely extricated.

Among those rescued alive are Suyani's husband and another woman. They were immediately admitted to the hospital, where they are currently undergoing treatment. Rescuers stated that removing the debris took several hours as the building's structure was extremely unstable.

Dilapidated Condition and Warnings for the Building

Local residents stated that the building had been in poor condition for a long time, and there was always a risk of its collapse. They had repeatedly urged the administration to repair or demolish it, but no action was taken.

Local residents are now demanding that the administration identify such old buildings in the future and secure them in a timely manner. They believe that if steps had been taken earlier, this fatal accident could have been averted.

Investigation into the Accident and Building Safety Measures Underway

Police Inspector H.R. Goswami informed that an investigation into the accident has been initiated. Debris removal work has been completed, and other old buildings in the vicinity are being inspected.

The administration has warned local residents to stay alert and keep a safe distance from hazardous buildings. It was also stated that regular monitoring and timely repair of buildings are essential to prevent such incidents in the future.
