Powered by the lethal bowling of Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah, the West Indies team could only manage 162 runs in their first innings. In the match, West Indies captain Roston Chase had won the toss and decided to bat first, but this decision proved largely ineffective.

SPORTS NEWS: In the Ahmedabad Test match between India and West Indies, Indian bowlers completely demolished the West Indies batsmen. Faced with the lethal bowling of Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah, the Caribbean batsmen stumbled on the very first day, and their team was restricted to just 162 runs in their first innings.

West Indies captain Roston Chase won the toss and opted to bat first, but this decision proved costly for them. The excellent line and length and penetrating bowling of the Indian fast bowlers troubled the West Indies batsmen at every turn.

Siraj and Bumrah's Fiery Spell

Siraj and Bumrah collectively accounted for 7 wickets. Siraj claimed 4 wickets for 40 runs in 14 overs, while Bumrah also took 4 wickets for 42 runs in 14 overs. Additionally, Kuldeep Yadav took 2 wickets and Washington Sundar secured 1 wicket. The impactful pace and yorkers from both fast bowlers, alongside Washington Sundar's spin and Kuldeep's guile, effectively controlled the West Indies innings.

From West Indies, the biggest contribution came from Justin Greaves, who scored 32 runs. He faced 48 balls in his innings and hit 4 boundaries. Additionally:

  • Shai Hope scored 26 runs off 36 balls.
  • Captain Roston Chase contributed 24 runs.
  • Brandon King made 13 and Khary Pierre scored 11 runs.
  • All other batsmen failed to reach double digits.

Five Wickets Down by Lunch

By the lunch break, the West Indies team had lost 5 wickets and had a score of just 90 runs. The first blow was dealt by Siraj to opener Tagenarine Chanderpaul, who returned to the pavilion without scoring. Bumrah, meanwhile, dismissed John Campbell. Just before lunch, Kuldeep Yadav bowled Shai Hope. Campbell had hit two superb boundaries against Bumrah, but the experienced fast bowler trapped him with a straight delivery. Campbell was declared out after a third umpire review.

Brandon King scored 13 runs off 15 balls, hitting three boundaries, but was bowled by an inswinging delivery from Siraj. Alick Athanaze misjudged Siraj's length delivery and was caught by Lokesh Rahul at slip. Shai Hope and captain Roston Chase formed a 48-run partnership for the fifth wicket, but the Indian bowlers thwarted every attempt by West Indies to make a comeback in the match. Kuldeep's guile bowled Hope, and the West Indies innings concluded at 162 runs.
