Shakib Al Hasan's International Cricket Career Ends Amidst Political Controversy

Shakib Al Hasan, considered one of Bangladesh cricket's biggest stars, has seen his international career come to an end. Bangladesh Cricket's Sports Advisor Asif Mahmud has made it clear that Shakib will no longer be seen playing for his country.

Sports News: The international career of Bangladesh's legendary all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has now concluded. Bangladesh's Sports Advisor Asif Mahmud has explicitly stated that Shakib will no longer play for his country. Shakib, who was also a Member of Parliament for Sheikh Hasina's Awami League until this year, found it difficult to remain in Bangladesh following the recent coup. He has not played for the team for the past 12 months and was not present in the squad for the Asia Cup-2025.

What happened with Shakib?

Shakib Al Hasan, who has been Bangladesh cricket's flagship all-rounder over the past decade, has been absent from international cricket for the past 12 months. He was also not part of the team for the Asia Cup 2025. Recently, Shakib shared a social media post on the birthday of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Shakib claims this post was entirely private and personal, not political. He wrote that his relationship with Hasina has always been b, both through cricket and personally.

However, Bangladesh's Sports Advisor Asif Mahmud took this post seriously and issued a statement without directly naming Shakib. He wrote, "You all heavily criticized me for not bringing one person back. But I was right. End of discussion." Following this, he planned to instruct the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) that Shakib should never again be included in the national team.

Shakib's Response

Reacting to this decision, Shakib said, "So, someone has assumed that I will not be able to wear the Bangladesh jersey again because of him. It is because of them that I could not play for Bangladesh again. Perhaps I will return to my homeland one day. Love you Bangladesh." Shakib also clarified that his post was merely a personal sentiment and did not involve any political agenda.
