Praveer Ranjan Assumes Charge as 32nd Director General of CISF

On September 30, 2025, Praveer Ranjan assumed charge as the 32nd Director General of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). Prior to this appointment, he served as Special Director General in CISF and headed the Force's Airport Security Sector.

CISF: Praveer Ranjan, who previously served as Special CP of Delhi Police, took charge as the 32nd Director General of CISF on Tuesday. He is a 1993-batch IPS officer of the AGMUT cadre and was previously serving as Special Director General in CISF. Ranjan's career spans over 32 years, during which he has held significant positions in crucial organizations like Delhi Police, CBI, and IB.

In recognition of his services, he was awarded the President's Police Medal for Meritorious Service in 2009 and the President's Police Medal in 2016. His tenure will last until July 31, 2029.

Praveer Ranjan's Long and Distinguished Career

Praveer Ranjan is a 1993-batch IPS officer of the AGMUT cadre. His 32-year police career includes significant positions in Delhi Police, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), and the Intelligence Bureau (IB). He has served in crucial roles such as Special Commissioner (Crime and Economic Offenses Wing) in Delhi Police, DIG in CBI, and DGP of Chandigarh Police.

Ranjan was honored with the President's Police Medal in 2016 for his outstanding service and leadership. Additionally, he was awarded the President's Police Medal for Meritorious Service in 2009. Under his leadership, several digital initiatives and security projects were launched, bringing modernization to security services. His tenure will last until July 31, 2029.

Praveer Ranjan's Educational Qualifications

Praveer Ranjan's education and training have also been a strength in his career. He obtained a Master's degree in Police Management from Osmania University. Furthermore, he earned an LL.M. degree from National Law University, Delhi. Ranjan also expanded his knowledge internationally. He acquired Master's degrees in Public Administration and Public Policy Analysis from Singapore National University and Harvard University. This made him proficient not only in national but also in global security policies and administrative management.

His responsibility in CISF was to oversee the Airport Security Sector. Under his leadership, several improvements and new projects were implemented in airport security, industrial security, and digital surveillance systems. He incorporated new technologies into the operational capabilities and training of security forces, thereby enhancing CISF's credibility and effectiveness.
