In the Bilhaur and Govindnagar areas of Kanpur district, jeweler Anil Kumar Gupta has once again been targeted with an extortion demand. Approximately three and a half months ago, he was shot at, and a demand for 50 lakh rupees in extortion was made. At that time, the police had arrested four accused, but one accused is still at large.
This Monday evening, Anil Gupta received a phone call threatening him about why the previous extortion money had not been paid yet. Warnings like “you will have to face consequences” were issued if the money was not paid quickly. Upon receiving a complaint in this matter, the police have taken swift action and started an investigation.
According to the police, on the night of June 8, when he was returning home from his jewelry shop in Bilhaur, bike-borne assailants shot at him. Subsequently, a demand for 50 lakh rupees was made via a phone call.
Following this attack and threat, the police have provided security to Anil Gupta by deploying two constables. CCTV footage is being examined, mobile numbers are being traced, and efforts to identify the accused are ongoing.
